Go For The Gold

I am very proud of all of our Olympic athletes who are representing the United States of America in London. Their years of discipline, commitment, and dedication to their sporting events are inspiring! It's also amazing to see the excitement that builds for the Olympics and championship games in various sports. We position ourselves in front of the television for hours, if we aren't lucky enough to be front and center at the event, and coach our teams or chosen individuals to greatness. We feel the intensity of that moment right there on the sofa or in our favorite chair! We share the beaming sense of pride in their victory and are quick to rationalize what their shortcomings were if they were defeated. It is so easy to be a Monday morning quarterback, to look from the outside and criticize critique others.

Which leads to my burning question, do we approach our own life with the same intensity we expect athletes to approach their sport? Do we leave our house every morning prepared to pour out our best into the tasks that lie ahead? Do we give our "sport" one hundred and ten percent from the time we step into the door, until the time we step out? Or instead, do we approach our life tasks, our chosen paths, with a since of drudgery and a spirit of mediocrity. Trying to just make it through another day. Not attempting to get better, just to get through it. Believing that the terms "going hard", "beast", and "clutch", are only meant for athletes in their chosen field not for every day laborers in the "real" world.

As we continue cheering on our nation's best at the Olympics in London, preparing for the kick off of the NFL season,or just enjoying whatever sport tickles our fancy, I challenge all of us to approach our lives with the same focus and finish we expect athletes we support to approach each game or event. Believe it or not, going for the gold happens more than once every four years and going hard isn't defined by a particular playing field. Why settle for mediocrity when we were created for excellence? Your actions today determines your victories tomorrow. Make the decision to believe, plan, prepare, focus, and finish. It's our time to go for the gold! Your happiness is on the line and defeat is NOT an option.
